Noida: A tragic accident occurred in Noida, resulting in the death of a woman due to a lift collapse at Paras Tierra Housing Society in Sector-137.

Following the incident, residents of the society expressed their anger and created a ruckus on-site. The accident took place within the jurisdiction of Sector-142 police station.

The Gautam Buddha Nagar Vikas Samiti, led by Rashmi Pandey, the chairman of the committee, mourned the accident and emphasized the need for the Uttar Pradesh Lifts Safety Act, which is currently pending with the Public Works Department.

The unfortunate incident took place when 70-year-old Sushila Devi, a resident of tower number 24 in the society, was descending the stairs on Thursday evening.

Suddenly, the lift’s wire broke, causing a sharp jolt, and the lift got stuck midway. The maintenance department was informed, and efforts were made to open the lift, but tragically, it took around 45 minutes to do so, and Sushila Devi succumbed to her injuries and shock.

In the aftermath of the accident, residents of the housing society expressed their dissatisfaction with the poor maintenance of the lifts. Complaints about maintenance issues had been raised with the department, but no action was taken. The delayed response from the maintenance department further fueled the residents’ anger.

Upon receiving the information, the Noida police arrived at the scene, and the woman’s body was taken into custody for postmortem. The incident has caused fear and panic among the residents, who are demanding strict action against responsible employees of the maintenance department.

Rashmi Pandey, the president of Gautam Budh Nagar Vikas Samiti, has been advocating for the enactment of the Lifts and Elevator Safety Act in Uttar Pradesh for several years.

She emphasizes the importance of implementing this act to prevent such accidents in the future. The act, drafted by the Public Works Department of the Uttar Pradesh government, is yet to be presented in the Legislative Assembly.

Such accidents are becoming more frequent in high-rise buildings, leading to loss of life and increasing fear among the residents. Rashmi Pandey urges the Uttar Pradesh government to implement the Lift and Elevator Safety Act as soon as possible to ensure the safety of residents in high-rise buildings across the state.

She stresses that this law is essential not only for Gautam Budh Nagar and Ghaziabad districts but also for other districts in Uttar Pradesh facing similar situations.

Additionally, another incident occurred in Greater Noida West, where a lift suddenly stopped with a woman and two children inside. Although the lift started moving again after 15 minutes, the incident caused panic among the residents of Panchsheel Greens-1 Housing Society.

These accidents highlight the urgent need for proper safety measures and the enactment of the Lifts and Elevator Safety Act to protect lives in high-rise buildings across the state.
