Bengaluru: On October 9, the Bengaluru Metro’s Purple Line, also known as the Whitefield-Challaghatta Metro corridor, was opened to the public. This expansion includes the 2.1-km Baiyappanahalli-KR Pura and 2.05-km Kengeri-Challaghatta sections, which are part of the 42.85 km Purple Line, stretching from Whitefield to Challaghatta in the east and west.
Commuters had long awaited these metro rail services, and their demand was met after numerous online campaigns.

Timings:
Services start at 5 am from all terminal stations. The last train from Whitefield (Kadugodi) departs at 10.45 pm, while from other terminal stations, it’s at 11.05 pm.
Travel Time and Frequency:
The journey from Whitefield (Kadugodi) to Challaghatta takes approximately 82 minutes, covering 37 metro stations. During morning peak hours, the operational headway on the East-West Corridor varies, with the shortest being 3 minutes between Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Station – Majestic to MG Road. During non-peak hours, the train runs at a frequency of 8-10 minutes, while during early morning, it’s every 15 minutes.

The metro train journey from Whitefield (Kadugodi) to Challaghatta costs around ₹57-₹60, according to media reports.
The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited has expanded its operational network from 69.66 km to 73.81 km, now encompassing 66 metro stations.
