Avalanches may hit J&K, Disaster Management issues notice

Jammu and Kashmir: The Jammu and Kashmir Disaster Management Authority on Friday warned that there is a possibility of avalanches in several districts of Jammu and Kashmir at an altitude of 2,800 to 3,000 meters above sea level.

According to Authority, avalanches are likely to occur in Baramulla, Doda, Ganderbal, Kishtwar, Kupwara, Poonch, Ramban, Reasi, Anantnag, and Kulgam.

The Disaster Management has advised local people living in these areas to exercise caution and avoid visiting avalanche-prone areas until further orders.

Earlier in February, two foreigners died in an avalanche in Gulmarg, and 19 stranded tourists and 2 local guides were rescued.
