New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday said “he was fighting for India’s voice and ready to pay any price for it.” His statement came on a day when his Lok Sabha membership was cancelled following his conviction in 2019 defamation case.
In a post on Twitter, Gandhi said, “I am fighting for the voice of India. I am ready to pay any cost.”

In an official notice on Thursday, the Lok Sabha Secretariat issued a notice to Rahul Gandhi informing that he was disqualified from the Lower House in terms of the provisions of Article 102(1)(e) of the Constitution read with Section 8 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.
As a result to which, the Wayanad seat of Kerala stands vacant and the by-polls for the same will be conducted soon.

This comes a day after Rahul Gandhi was convicted for his remark at a Lok Sabha polls rally in Karnataka on April 13, 2019. “Why all the thieves, be it Nirav Modi, Lalit Modi or Narendra Modi, have Modi in their names,” Gandhi allegedly said during the rally.
The court has also awarded imprisonment of 2 years to Gandhi. Later, the court granted him bail. Meanwhile, the order has been suspended for next 30 days so that the Congress MP can appeal in the High Court.

Earlier in the day, Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi Friday said that party’s former cheif Rahul Gandhi is paying for speaking the truth while pointing out that Gandhi had been raising the Adani issue in the Parliament.
“We all know that Rahul Gandhi has been speaking out fearlessly both inside and outside the Parliament. Clearly, he is paying a price for it,” said Singhvi during a media interaction.
