Counting for Rajasthan continues but BJP has already scripted history in the assembly elections 2023. The ruling party has managed to make a lead on 116 out of 199 seats, a figure that remained untouched in any poll prediction.

Congress has shrunken to 68 seats in the state where its two senior leaders had an internal conflict to rule in the last session. Though anti-incumbency has been a common phenomenon in Rajasthan where the ruling party loses to the opposition in the next election, this wide gap of figures between both the parties remained unpredictable even in the exit polls.

Congress leader Ashok Gehlot seems to have swallowed the defeat as he comes up to speak on the mandate and pays gratitude to the people of Rajasthan. “Maine kaha tha janta maai-baap hai, jo mandate aayega usko hum with humility swikar karenge…”, he says.

The former CM also extends warm regards to the newly elected party of the state and hopes it will carry forward the schemes the last government initiated.

Over the party’s defeat, he says, “From Mallikarjun Kharge to Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, all of us tried. We did not leave any stone unturned and were fully prepared for the elections. We thought people would vote for us based on our current schemes but that did not happen. We will analyze this.”
