Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has been granted bail by Delhi’s Rouse Avenue court, preventing his arrest for skipping probe agency summons. The court had summoned him after the Enforcement Directorate, seeking to question Mr. Kejriwal regarding the Delhi excise policy case, informed the court that the Chief Minister had disregarded eight summons issued under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

Mr. Kejriwal, upon skipping the ED summons, accused the Narendra Modi government of employing central agencies to target Opposition leaders.

The latest summons from the ED was issued in late February, requesting the Chief Minister to appear for questioning on March 4. However, Mr. Kejriwal, who deemed the summons “illegal,” chose to skip it and stated that he would only appear for questioning through video-conferencing.

The financial probe agency insisted that Mr. Kejriwal appear physically for questioning, emphasizing that there is no provision for virtual questioning.

Top AAP leaders, including former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh, have been arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with a money laundering case related to Delhi’s now-scrapped excise policy.
