A 48-year-old Army colonel was reportedly subjected to assault and robbery by three individuals in South Delhi’s Malviya Nagar area. The incident unfolded when the victim requested a lighter from one of the accused, leading to a confrontation.
Vinit Mahto, the complainant and a resident of Chanakyapuri, reported the incident to the Malviya Nagar police station. He recounted that he had visited the Triveni complex in Malviya Nagar with a friend after attending a seminar the previous day.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Chandan Chowdhary, the incident occurred around 11:30 pm when the victim asked for a lighter from an individual at the Triveni complex. In response, the person not only verbally abused him but also physically attacked him from behind.
In an attempt to defend himself, the complainant pushed the aggressor, causing him to fall to the ground. Subsequently, the accused called two accomplices and they mercilessly beat Maho. They also stole his mobile phone in addition to other items from his car, he added.
The senior official reported that the complainant started feeling dizzy and later found out that his two mobile phones, credit card, voter ID card and Rs 10,000 cash were robbed from his car.
According to the DCP, a case user various sections including sections 394 (voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery), 411 (dishonestly receiving stolen property) and 34 (common intention) of the IPC have been registered against the accused at the Malviya Nagar police station.

In a significant development, Chowdhry asserted that the two people accused have been identified as Mithun alias Deepak (22), a resident of Chirag Dilli, and Mukul (28), who hailed from Jagdamba Camp in Sheikh Sarai. They were nabbed during the investigation and two mobile phones were found in their possession.
Meanwhile, the officials are in search of the third identified accused.
