Amritsar Blast: A loud sound was heard at the wee hours of Thursday near Shri Guru Ram Das Niwas, some distance from the Golden Temple in Amritsar. Punjab Police said that the sound was heard around 12.15 to 12.30. The investigation is underway. The Punjab Police has detained a suspect. This is third time in a week when blast-like sound was heard. Earlier it was heard on May 6 and 8 near the Golden Temple.

According to Punjab Police sources, five conspirators who hatched the Amritsar blast conspiracy have been arrested. The motive behind the blast was to disturb the peace. Explosives used in firecrackers were used in the blast. Police will hold a press conference soon.

DGP Punjab Police Gaurav Yadav said that the cases of low-intensity blasts in Amritsar have been solved. 5 persons have been arrested. Detailed information will be given during the press conference in Amritsar.

Talking to reporters, Police Commissioner Naunihal Singh said, “A loud sound was heard between 12.15 to 12.30 in the night. There is a possibility that this could be another blast. This is being confirmed and is yet to be confirmed. We’ve got some pieces behind the building. But as it is dark, we are trying to trace it.”

Blast on May 8 and 6 as well

It is being told that Shri Guru Ram Das Niwas is the oldest ‘sarai’ (lodge). Police personnel and members of the forensic team reached the spot after being informed about the loud noise and the investigation is currently underway. Police said the blast occurred on the morning of Monday, May 8, at a heritage street near the Golden Temple here, where the explosion took place on May 6.

Police said the explosion took place on Heritage Street leading to the Golden Temple, near the same spot where Saturday’s blast took place. No one was injured in today’s incident. Devotees and locals initially believed it to be a terrorist attack. However, the police later clarified that the blast could be an accident or an act of mischief.
