Businessman and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra‘s husband, Robert Vadra, stated that the people of Amethi desire him to contest from the constituency against the incumbent MP Smriti Irani. He mentioned that the people of Amethi have realized their mistake and now prefer a member of the Gandhi family to represent the constituency. Additionally, Vadra mentioned receiving requests from people in Amethi, urging him to join politics and choose Amethi as his constituency. He recalled his initial political campaign alongside Priyanka in Amethi back in 1999.

Amethi emerged as a highly contested constituency in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections when Smriti Irani secured victory over Rahul Gandhi, ending the Gandhi family’s long-standing dominance in the region. Rahul Gandhi had previously won Amethi in the 2004, 2009, and 2014 elections, but Smriti Irani’s victory marked a significant shift. The Congress party has yet to announce its candidate for both Amethi and Raebareli, while Rahul Gandhi opted to file his nomination from Wayanad. Additionally, Raebareli gained importance in this election cycle as Sonia Gandhi, the incumbent MP, transitioned to the Rajya Sabha.

Speculations were widespread that Rahul Gandhi would contest from both Amethi and Wayanad, similar to his strategy in 2019, while there were rumors that Priyanka Gandhi Vadra might make her electoral debut from Raebareli. However, the suspense persisted as there was no official confirmation on either front. Robert Vadra’s recent statement has added fuel to the speculation, suggesting that he is open to contesting the election from Amethi.

Robert Vadra remarked that the people of Amethi are dissatisfied with their current MP, citing allegations of her misuse of power to target the Gandhi family. He highlighted the longstanding contributions of the Gandhi family to regions like Raebareli, Amethi, and Sultanpur. Vadra suggested that given the regret among Amethi residents for choosing Smriti Irani over Rahul Gandhi, there is a growing preference for a Gandhi family member to represent them. He also mentioned being approached by individuals in Amethi, encouraging him to consider contesting from the constituency if he plans to enter politics.

Vadra added that individuals with whom he collaborated in Amethi remain in contact with him, extending birthday wishes and reaching out through social media. He mentioned that they are aware of his extensive involvement in charitable activities, and consequently, they also organize similar events during his birthdays.
