Akhilesh Yadav has been appointed as the new president of Mumbai Youth Congress. This comes after Zeeshan Siddiqui’s removal from the position. Zeeshan is the son of Baba Siddiqui and is a former Congress MLA from Bandra East.

Baba Siddiqui resigned from the Congress earlier this month and joined the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) led by Deputy CM Ajit Pawar. He was a prominent minority face of the Congress in Mumbai. After joining the NCP, he stated that while the Congress wants their votes, they don’t want to give anything in return. Baba Siddiqui mentioned that he felt mistreated in the Congress, as if curry leaves were used just to enhance the taste without any real substance.

Baba Siddiqui, who served as an MLA for three consecutive terms in 1999, 2004, and 2009, and also held the position of Minister of State for Food and Civil Supplies. His departure elicited a strong reaction from Mumbai Congress chief Varsha Eknath Gaikwad, who stated that Siddiqui’s resignation would not affect the grand old party.
Siddique’s departure from the Congress marked another setback for the party, which has been grappling with numerous leaders resigning. Former Chief Minister Ashok Chavan and senior leader Milind Deora also chose to leave the party earlier this year.
