14 Children Electrocuted During Mahashivratri Procession In Rajasthan’s Kota

A senior police official stated that two of the children suffered 100% and 50% burn injuries, respectively, while the remaining 12 sustained injuries of less than 50%

Fourteen children got shocked during a Mahashivratri procession in Kota, Rajasthan. The police said two are critical. They’ve been taken to the hospital. Photos from the hospital show children rushed into emergency rooms for treatment.

The children, who were part of a ‘Shiv Barat’ procession, sustained burn injuries on Friday, March 8, during late morning, after being electrocuted. Aged between 10 and 16 years, they were electrocuted by a high-tension power line passing overhead in the Sakatoura area, within the jurisdiction of the Kunhari police station.

A senior police official stated that two of the children suffered 100% and 50% burn injuries, respectively, while the remaining 12 sustained injuries of less than 50%. All the injured were swiftly taken to MBS Hospital in Kota.

According to Kota city SP Amrita Duhan, the incident occurred around noon on Friday while the procession was moving through Kalibasti. One of the boys in the procession, who was carrying a flag atop a 22-foot-high iron rod, accidentally touched the high-tension line passing overhead, resulting in the mishap.

The boy holding the flag suffered 100% burn injuries. Additionally, the other boys who attempted to rescue him also sustained burn injuries, as stated by Kota city SP Amrita Duhan.
