Actor Prithviraj Sukumaran has lent his support to Sandeep Reddy Vanga and the film “Animal” amidst criticism from certain sections of social media users. The movie, featuring Ranbir Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna, Tripti Dimri, Bobby Deol, and Anil Kapoor, has been under scrutiny for its explicit visuals depicting violence and gore. The film has also stirred controversy for its alleged glorification of misogyny and toxic masculinity.

Despite negative reviews and backlash on social media regarding certain dialogues and scenes, Prithviraj, who hasn’t seen “Animal” yet, expressed in an interview that filmmakers should have the creative freedom to portray violence as part of their narrative.

Prithviraj Sukumaran, the lead actor of “Salaar,” recently discussed the film’s depiction of violence. In the same conversation, he also justified the intense and graphic violence portrayed in “Animal.”

In an interview with News18, the actor expressed his belief that directors should have the creative freedom to exercise their artistic choices. He stated, “I haven’t watched Animal yet, and therefore, I can’t provide a comment on it. However, as a filmmaker myself, I believe that if a director deems it necessary to incorporate graphic violence to effectively convey the story, they should have the freedom to do so.”

He further added that, “Ultimately, after having made the film, you’re submitting it to a regulatory authority called the Censor Board, who is going to tell you that your film is certified so and so, which means only such and such sections of the audience can watch your film. Our responsibility as a filmmaker is to make sure that we submit it to the Censor Board. How we make the film should be left to us,”.

Emphasizing that “Salaar” revolves primarily around relationships, the actor highlighted, “Despite the spectacular action, violence, and grand production design with massive sets, Salaar is fundamentally a story about relationships. It features a beautifully written drama with intricate character dynamics.”
