Johnny Rodriguez, the first major Mexican American star in country music and a popular artist of 1970's has died at the age of 73.
Johnny, who was best known for his blockbuster hits such as 'I Just Can’t Get Her Out of My Mind,''Ridin’ My Thumb to Mexico' and 'That’s the Way Love Goes.' His voice and heartfelt lyrics made him a favourite among country music fans.

Peaceful Farewell
Johnny Rodriguez passed away on Friday and this news was shared by his daughter, Aubry Rodriguez, through a social media post. Taking to Instagram, she wrote: “It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Johnny Rodriguez, who left us peacefully on May 9th, surrounded by family."

She further continued, "Dad was not only a legendary musician whose artistry touched millions around the world, but also a deeply loved husband, father, uncle, and brother whose warmth, humor, and compassion shaped the lives of all who knew him. Early Recognition And Success
In 1972, Johnny was known as the Most Promising Male Vocalist at the Academy of Country Music Awards. Over his career, more than a dozen of his singles and albums reached the Top 10 charts. His debut album was nominated for Album of the Year in 1973.

Johnny Rodriguez's Personal Life
He was born in Sabinal, Texas, a small town west of San Antonio. Despite gaining the much audience, he always remained closely tied to his roots.
He was involved in a major controversy in 1998, around a shooting incident. He shot an acquaintance, Israel Borrego, at his mother’s home, believing him to be a burglar.
Later Life And Legacy
Even after being involved in a murder controversy, Johnny Rodriguez continued performing in South Texas and remained a beloved figure there in the regional music scene.
