The Super Mario Bros Movie: In its first 10 days, The Super Mario Bros. Movie earned more money than any other movie in 2023. The animated video game adaption from Universal and Illumination has now made $377 million worldwide. On the worldwide scene, the movie made close to $173 million.

The movie also broke box office records for numerous animated movies, including Frozen 2, which took in $358 million. According to reports, the movie had the best first-quarter 2023 opening ever. The achievement belongs to Illumination as well, the company behind successful franchises like Minions, which have so far grossed over $5 billion from their 13 films. The film was released across 4,343 theatres.
About the movie
The Super Mario Bros. Movie tells the story of the Mario Brothers, two Brooklyn plumbers. In the adaption, Luigi was voiced by Charlie Day and Mario by Chris Pratt. The movie resurrects some of Nintendo’s most well-known figures, including Bowser (Jack Black) and Princess Peach (Anya Taylor-Joy).
The reviews for the animated film have been conflicted. The Super Mario Bros. Movie surpasses Warcraft’s $210 million opening weekend to have the biggest opening weekend ever for a video game adaptation. With $21.6 million, it also sets a record for the biggest animated IMAX opening weekend ever.
