New Delhi: Late actress Jiah Khan’s mother, Rabia Khan testified for the first time as a prosecution witness. She told the special CBI court that 4 months before Jiah’s alleged suicide, the actress mentioned that her boyfriend Sooraj Pancholi physically and verbally abused her.
Rabia further stated that in February 2013, Jiah Khan broke down in front of her revealing how Sooraj would abuse her, throw her out of the car, call her dirty names. Rabia also mentioned that Jiah even sent pictures where bruises on her thighs were visible.

Jiah’s mother said, “I am a mother of three children, Nafisa, Karishma, and Kavita. Nafisa, whose screen name was Jia, passed away when she was 25, Karishma is 31 and Kavita has just turned 30. Nafisa was born in New York and she obtained citizenship by naturalisation. At the time Nafisa was born, I was Indian and had an Indian passport.”
Rabia further added, “She had various stylists but I had met Menaka Harisinghani before she passed away and I met her again after she passed away. They were also friends and she would give her an entire attire and plan her look for events.”

“On April 5, Jia said that Sooraj wanted to take both of us for dinner. He got a fancy car which he said belonged to his dad and he was using it to take Jia around. Before dinner, he said, Aunty, I want to say something. He said, ‘I cannot live without Jia and I want to marry her.’ I said” You are very young and have a career ahead. But you can get engaged. Her younger sister is getting engaged and so you both can get engaged. So I asked “Jia do you trust him because he is going to be in films”. Jia did not reply but we all laughed and I did not take this seriously, so I did not pursue it,” said Khan.
In the meantime, Advocate Prashant Patil appearing for Pancholi sought a few days after Khan’s deposition for preparing his questions for the cross-examination.
