Princess Diaries 3: Walt Disney confirms adding a new chapter to the popular coming-of-age comedy franchise “The Princes Diaries.” Princess Diaries 3 is under development at Walt Disney Pictures.
According to a report by The Hollywood Reporter, Aadrita Mukerji will be writing the script for The Princess Diaries 3. She is the writer of TV shows like “Supergirl” and “Reacher.”
The report also suggests that the film will not be a reboot or remake, but a continuation of the films led by Anne Hathaway.
However, Hathaway’s casting is yet to be confirmed. As per the report, Anne Hathaway does not seem to return as of now. Although Hathaway often said that she would love to return to the franchise if there is a possibility. More information regarding her casting is yet to unfold.
Meanwhile, The original The Princess Diaries was released in 2001 and its sequel Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement, was released in 2004. Both the installments were box office hits.
Loosely based on Meg Cabot’s novel, the film earned USD 165.3 million globally. Hathaway and Andrews reprised their roles for 2004’s “Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement”, which raised USD 134.7 million globally. Late filmmaker Garry Marshall directed both instalments.
Meanwhile, Princess Diaries 3 is being backed by Debra Martin Chase, the producer behind the first two “Princess Diaries” films.
