New Delhi: At a recent concert, English singer Harry Styles shocked the audience with a well-known Australian tradition. On Monday night in Perth, Harry began the first part of his Australian tour by sipping water from his sneaker.
In a viral video, Harry is seen casually conversing with the crowd between songs at HBF Park while participating in an intriguing Australian drinking practise known as shoey. A shoey is when a person puts alcohol into one shoe and chugs it, as popularised by Formula One racer Daniel Ricciardo. Harry, on the other hand, used water.
The video shows harry asking his audience, “Does anybody have a drink that they wouldn’t mind lending?” He further asks his fans, “Can we do a shoey with water or is that against the rules? No?”

He is then seen pulling out his footwear and emptying a drink into his mouth from it. Before that he comments, “This is one of the most disgusting traditions.”

Several other singers, including Post Malone and country singer Kacey Musgraves, have performed this Australian custom on prior tours. After performing the shoey, Harry says, “I feel like a different person. I feel ashamed of myself. It feels so personal. Such an intimate moment to be shared with so many people. I’ll be discussing this with my therapist at length.”
Fans flooded the social media with their reactions. “His soul left his body,” a fan hilariously tweeted. Another one wrote, “The most bleh with this shoey thing is you have to walk in drenched shoe after.”
