Varun Dhawan’s latest release, Baby John, has failed to make an impact at the box office. Despite being one of the actor’s most anticipated projects, the film has recorded a disappointing total of Rs. 39.15 crore in 15 days, as per Sacnilk reports. On its second Wednesday, the film saw its lowest collection of Rs. 20 lakhs, marking a significant decline.
Directed by Kalees, Baby John had created substantial buzz upon its teaser release, with audiences stunned by the visuals. However, the excitement dwindled close to the film’s release. Even with the advantage of a Christmas holiday release, the film managed to earn only Rs. 11.25 crore on its opening day. Unfortunately, the movie’s subsequent daily collections failed to match or surpass its debut numbers.

Remake Factor Blamed For Poor Performance
According to Rajpal, Varun Dhawan’s co-star in Baby John, the film’s failure is largely attributed to it being a remake of the Tamil movie Theri. In an interview with Bollywood Bubble, Rajpal stated, “Since Vijay had already done it, the audience had seen the story. If it weren’t a remake, it would have been one of the best films of my 25-year career.”
In contrast, Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2 continues its dominance, crossing the Rs. 1200 crore mark in India. The Hindi version alone has contributed Rs. 800 crore to the total collection, showcasing a stark difference in audience reception compared to Baby John.
Having made his Bollywood debut with Student of the Year, Varun Dhawan has shown versatility in films like Badlapur and October. While his comedy films have had mixed success, his recent ventures like Bhediya impressed audiences. However, the failure of Baby John marks a rare setback for the actor.
