Deepfake videos targeted celebrities like Rashmika Mandanna, Katrina Kaif, Kajol, Ranveer Singh, Aamir Khan, and most recently, Alia Bhatt. Wamiqa Gabbi originally shared the video on April 27 from her official Instagram account, featuring herself. Later, someone deepfaked it with Alia Bhatt’s face. In the video, the ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi‘ actress donned a red saree paired with a bold blouse. The caption on the video stated, “Aliabhatt off screen,” accompanied by sparkle and red heart emojis.
Alia Bhatt’s fans took to social media to respond to the morphed video. One user commented, “They used AI to replace Wamiqa Gabbi’s face with Alia’s in the original video.” Another user questioned the legality, stating, “Are you allowed to use Alia’s face like this?” A third user expressed surprise, asking, “How is this possible, @aliaabhatt?” Many users tagged the actress, expressing their concerns.
Alia Bhatt has faced this issue earlier as well
In November 2023, the actress encountered a similar incident for the second time, where someone manipulated her appearance to appear on another woman’s face. Many other Politicians and celebrities have also been targeted with deepfake videos.
Wamiqa Gabbi has gained recognition for her roles in films such as 83, Kali Jotta, and VD18. Her upcoming movie, Baby John, will feature her alongside Varun Dhawan. Directed by Kalees, the Tamil film also includes Keerthy Suresh in the cast. Although they initially set Baby John’s release date for May 31, they have postponed it, and they have not confirmed a new release date yet.
Meanwhile, Alia Bhatt is preparing to appear in Jigra, a film co-produced by Karan Johar and Vasan Bala, scheduled for a theatrical premiere on September 27, 2024. Currently in New York, she attended the 2024 Met Gala wearing a floral Sabyasachi Mukherjee saree. Crafted by 163 artisans, her couture saree paid tribute to The Garden of Time, the official dress code theme for the 2024 Met Gala.
