Punjab: A woman was shot dead late on Sunday evening in Patiala, Punjab, after drinking alcohol near a lake in a gurudwara. Police received the information and took the dead body of the woman into custody. At the same time, a suspect has also been arrested in the case. The police are interrogating him.
According to information, the incident occurred at Dukhniwaran Sahib Gurdwara in Patiala. The Patiala Police have told us that the woman has been identified as Parminder Kaur. The investigation has revealed that the woman was allegedly drinking alcohol while sitting on the banks of the lake in the gurudwara. The people present there took the woman to the Gurudwara manager’s room.
Before the information was given to the police, someone from the crowd shot the woman. As soon as the bullet hit, the woman fell, soaked in blood, and died. According to reports, a sevadar of the gurdwara was also injured in the incident. He was taken to the hospital.
The accused was identified as Nirmaljeet Singh, a resident of Urban Estate, Patiala. Inquiries revealed that he seemed religiously charged. According to the police, the accused shot the woman five times, and more than three bullets hit her. She then collapsed just outside the manager’s room.
People who know the accused, Nirmaljit Singh, say that the accused has recently divorced his wife. Since then, he has visited the gurdwara regularly. He works in property dealing. DSP Jaswinder Tiwana said that the reason behind the incident is being investigated. The licenced weapon of the accused has been seized.
