Starting from November 1, pensioners in West Bengal will no longer be required to visit treasuries or banks in person to submit their life certificate for pension disbursement. Instead, they can conveniently submit a digital life certificate (DLC) from the comfort of their homes using a smartphone and a face authentication process. This initiative, aimed at simplifying the pensioner’s experience, was recently notified by the state finance department.
Until now, pensioners and family pensioners had to either physically submit a hard copy of their life certificate, duly verified by an authorized authority with their signature, or arrange for a close relative with an authority letter to visit the designated bank. Alternatively, they could submit a DLC through the government’s Jeevanpramaan portal, after which a physical visit to a treasury or bank equipped with a bio-metric device was necessary.
The new digital system through smartphone face authentication will provide an additional, more convenient option while maintaining the existing methods for submitting life certificates. Necessary amendments to the West Bengal Treasury Rule are being made to implement this system.
