New Delhi: The Supreme Court has given its verdict on the abortion petition of a pregnant engineering student. The court said that a team of doctors from AIIMS would conduct the delivery. After birth, the child will be given to a family for adoption. On the other hand, after this decision, the student also got ready to give birth to the child.

Became aware of pregnancy after 7 months

Some time ago a 20-year-old engineering student had filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking permission for abortion. The girl told that she came to know about the pregnancy after 7 months. She said that I am not married that’s why her family is not ready to accept the child.

The Supreme Court had sought the opinion of the doctors of AIIMS on this matter. The team of doctors, while giving its report to the Supreme Court, had said that the pregnancy has been more than 29 weeks, so abortion would not be justified.

CJI discussed the matter in his chamber

The CJI called all the stakeholders related to the matter to his chamber at 11 am on Thursday. In the discussion that lasted for 40 minutes, all the three judges in the bench were in favor of not getting the abortion done. During this, SG Tushar Mehta said that he also wants to adopt a child once and orphan children are everyone’s responsibility.

SG Tushar Mehta told the court during the hearing that a couple is ready to adopt the child. The CJI said that this process should be kept completely secret. The CJI said that he himself had discussed the matter at home.
