Bengaluru: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has decided to increase the travel cost on the Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway from 8 a.m. on July 1 onwards. To collect new tolls on the Mysuru-Nidaghatta section of the Maddur Highway, a toll plaza will be opened in Ganangur, Srirangapatna. The ruling party, Congress, has criticised the decision.
New Toll rates
NHAI issued new toll rates through their Twitter account on Wednesday. The additional toll will be in addition to the existing toll on the Bengaluru-Nidaghatta route. The NHAI will also sell a monthly pass for Rs 330, valid for non-commercial cars travelling within a 20-kilometre radius of the toll plaza. The NHAI has stated that no tolls will be collected during the simulated rehearsal on the motorway scheduled for June 30.
- For cars/SUVs/vans travelling between Mysuru and Nidaghatta, a one-way trip will cost Rs 155, while a return journey within 24 hours will cost Rs 235.
- LCVs/LGVs/minibuses will be charged Rs 235 for a one-way trip and Rs 375 for a return journey within 24 hours.
- Trucks/buses (with two axles) will need to pay Rs 525 for a one-way trip and Rs 790 for a return journey within 24 hours.
Madhyan Congress MLA P Ravikumar said, “NHAI is yet to complete several works on the expressway, including the Hanakere Underpass, moving of the entry point near Amaravati Hotel, providing an entry point at Hosabudanoor, expanding the canal at Chikka Mandya and white-taping of the old Bengaluru-Mysuru Road. Without having completed these, NHAI’s decision to collect toll is unfair.”
