Mathura: Five people died and four more were injured on Tuesday as parts of an old building collapsed on devotees near the Banke Bihari temple in Vrindavan.

Yogi Adityanath, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, announced ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakhs to the kin of those killed in the tragic incident. CM also directed officials to ensure better treatment of those injured, officials informed.

According to sources, the incident took place in the evening after a balcony of the old building collapsed on devotees who were walking under it. Rescue works were underway late at night Tuesday.

Vijay Kumar Singh, Vrindavan SHO, said that a couple of monkeys were fighting among themselves on the balcony at the time when it collapsed.

All the injured were rushed to hospital, Where five were declared dead.

Geeta Kashyap (50), Anju Murgan (51) from Vrindavan, Arvind Kumar Yadav (35) and Rashi Gupta from Kanpur, and Chandan Rai (28) from Deoria were deceased identified by officials
