‘Liberate J&K from the rule of 3 families’: Amit Shah in J&K

New Delhi: Addressing a rally in Rajouri on Tuesday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that three families had left no stone unturned in committing corruption in Jammu and Kashmir. Amit Shah said that PM Modi gave an important decision on 5th August 2019 and removed Article 370 and 35A from Jammu and Kashmir. If Article 370 and 35A is not removed, will there be no tribal reservation in Jammu and Kashmir? He also announced that with the abrogation of Article 370 and 35A, backwards, dalits, tribals and hills are going to get their rights here.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is in favor of reservation for hill people and quota will be implemented in the near future. He said, “Justice Sharma has recommended the Scheduled Tribe status to the hill people. PM Modi is going to implement the recommendations.”

He said that the Pahadis, Gujjars and Bakarwals had to face discrimination earlier as they did not get reservation. He also allayed fears that reservation for hills would adversely affect other backward communities such as Gurjars and Bakarwals, who are recognized as STs in Jammu and Kashmir.

“I express my gratitude to the Pahadis, Gujjars and Bakarwals who have stood firm against terrorism,” he said. The veteran BJP leader took a jibe at those opposing the abolition of special status to Jammu and Kashmir.

He said, “The Modi government removed Article 370 and 35A. Had we not abolished Article 370 and 35A, would ST communities get political reservation? Now, Pahadi and other communities will get their right.”

Shah claimed that the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A has not only brought democracy to the grassroots, but has also helped in curbing extremism and action against terrorism in the Valley. Shah said, “Terrorist incidents have come down in Jammu and Kashmir. The Modi government is following a policy of hot pursuit against terrorists and separatists like Hurriyat.”

He also said that the death toll of security personnel has come down from 1,200 per annum to 136 this year due to the Centre’s strong action against terrorists. Taking a jibe at the BJP’s political opponents, Shah said, “Jammu and Kashmir was ruled by only three families, but now the power rests with 30,000 people elected to panchayats, zilla parishads.”

Earlier in the day, slogans were raised demanding ST/SC status in place of Amit Shah’s rally in Rajouri. Also, mobile internet services were temporarily suspended in parts of Jammu and Rajouri districts ahead of the Home Minister’s address.

An official notification by the Jammu and Kashmir administration said that internet services were temporarily suspended for fear that the services would be “misused by anti-national elements, leading to public order disturbance,” news agency NIA reported.
