Kolkata: In a shocking incident that unfolded in Kolkata recently, a class 8 student was allegedly raped and killed by an e-rickshaw driver. The incident occurred after the girl left her home following a fight with her mother. Police recovered her dead body from the bushes in the New Town area on Friday. A Police Officer said, “The girl was studying in Class VIII. She walked out of her home around 10 pm after being scolded by her mother for not studying. She even left behind a letter.”
Family Files A Complaint; Police Review CCTV
The girl didn’t turn up next morning post which her family filed a missing complaint with the police later in the evening. According to the reports, after reviewing the CCTV footage, it was discovered that the victim got into a e-rickshaw after leaving her residence. The driver, identified as Soumitra Roy, took her to an isolated place after driving around for a while and sexually assaulted her, before strangulating her to death and fleeing.
Body Found In A Plot
The deceased’s body was recovered from a plot owned by the West Bengal Infrastructure Development Finance Corporation. After checking the scratch marks on the girl’s body and scars on her neck, Police suspected she was raped before being murdered.
Accused Confesses To The Crime
The accused was later arrested and he even confessed his crime. The accused’s wife told Police that Roy is already dealing with a case for molesting a woman in Ranaghat.
