Congress holds protest in Karnataka

Bengaluru: Karnataka Congress on Tuesday staged a protest against the Central government accusing them of not providing rice to the state.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah accused the Modi government of doing hate politics.

“Food Corporation of India (FCI) wrote a letter to us saying that they have agreed to supply rice to our state. On 14th June, we got another letter stating that we can’t supply rice and wheat. What does it mean? Why they have agreed if there was no stock in FCI? They are doing hate politics,” said CM Siddaramaiah.

DK Shivakumar, Deputy Chief Minister of state, said his government is committed to prove 10 kg of rice to the people of the state for free, but the union government is not helping us.

“We are committed to the people of Karnataka that we will provide them 10 kg of free rice. It is the duty of the central government to give us rice. We were giving them money and they agreed to give but now they have refused. We are fighting against the double-standard politics of the BJP. We will buy rice from other states and fulfil our poll promise,” said DK Shivakumar.

Minister Priyank Kharge accused the BJP-led central government of doing revenge politics as Congress defeated them in the Assembly election.

“The BJP-led central government is taking revenge because the people of Karnataka did not vote for the BJP. The central govt is not allowing us to buy rice from the Food Corporation of India. On June 12, we got permission to buy 2.2 lakh metric tonnes of rice at Rs 3600 per quintal, but on June 13, a new notification was issued that the Karnataka government cannot buy rice & traders were given rice at Rs 3100 per quintal,” said Priyank Kharge.
