MP VK Singh’s nod to include Muradnagar in the expanded border is a significant move towards transforming Ghaziabad into a Greater Ghaziabad. Mayor Sunita Dayal is set to play a pivotal role in this transformation, potentially earning the distinction of being the shortest-serving Mayor in the process.
Mayor Sunita Dayal clinched her position after a resounding victory following the Municipal Corporation Ghaziabad’s election results announced on May 13, 2023. Securing 41.43 percent of the total votes, she dominated the polls with her nearest 11 opposition candidates managing only 2,54,825 votes out of 6,38,903 cast. Her landslide win not only established her authority but also strengthened her influence within the party.
The ambitious plan to extend Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation’s boundaries involves incorporating neighboring municipalities, albeit with anticipated complexities. However, optimistic signals from the government hint at the realization of Ghaziabad’s expansion aspirations.
In line with this vision, Union Minister and local MP, General VK Singh, is advocating for Muradnagar Municipality’s inclusion in Greater Ghaziabad. Additionally, a senior BJP leader, active in the Yogi government, spearheads efforts to integrate Dasna Nagar Panchayat into the Municipal Corporation.
While the extension could streamline administrative expenses, it will necessitate doubling other expenditures to ensure metropolitan-level amenities for the expanded areas. Presently, Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation operates on a budget exceeding Rs 1700 crore, expected to surge beyond Rs 4000 crore post-integration.
However, challenges await Mayor Sunita Dayal, particularly in the upcoming elections following the city’s expansion, heralding a potentially demanding phase for Ghaziabad’s leadership.
