Noida: Dr Lokesh M, the managing director of NMRC, announced on Wednesday that the Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) is seeking a new name for the Aqua Metro Line between Noida and Greater Noida from the public.
The new MD instructs the staff to implement effective strategies for boosting profits from non-fare revenue sources and improving commuter convenience by introducing last-mile connectivity.
Lokesh M said, “We will soon issue an advertisement inviting suggestions from the general public about what should be the nickname for the Aqua Line. We want people to suggest some Indian names or indigenous names related to the local culture or something with which residents can relate or feel emotionally connected. The basic idea is that people must own the Noida Metro and feel connected.”
He added, “The idea behind providing last-mile connectivity is that the commuters travel via this Metro with complete ease. E-rickshaw is one of the workable last-mile connectivity modes. Apart from that, we can also run a city bus service comprising electric buses.”
In addition, he urged the staff to introduce e-rickshaws from every Metro station to nearby residential or commercial areas and also begin the city bus service.
Furthermore, he emphasized the importance of adopting a non-fare profit model, which includes generating revenue through advertising in public spaces, renting out commercial spaces at Metro stations, and operating parking facilities, among other initiatives.
The Aqua Line, covering 29.7km and consisting of 21 stations between Noida’s Sector 51 and Depot Station in Greater Noida, was constructed for ₹5,503 crore, as reported by officials.
