Ghaziabad: A transformational shift is on the horizon as a significant road in Ghaziabad, India, with a history of challenges, is set to undergo a major transformation. The thoroughfare stretching from Lal Kuan to Apsara Border, previously under the jurisdiction of the local municipal corporation, is now being handed over to the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI).

NHAI assumes responsibility of 10-km long stretch

An impending notification is expected to formalize the handover of the entire road from Lal Kuan to Apsara Border to the NHAI. Once the notification is issued, the NHAI will assume responsibility for the upkeep and maintenance of the approximately 10-kilometer-long road.

Notably, the NHAI was previously responsible for a portion of the road, specifically the segment up to Lal Kuan. Subsequently, the segment beyond that point, known as GT Road, was under the municipal corporation’s purview.

For nearly two decades, the municipal administration had overseen the maintenance of this road, diligently ensuring its functionality and upkeep, spanning from Lal Kuan to Apsara Border.

NHAI gets responsibility of GT Road

Discussions about transferring the responsibility of GT Road to the NHAI had been underway for a considerable period. An official proposal to this effect was submitted by the NHAI to the Uttar Pradesh government some time ago.

Subsequently, the municipal administration issued a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to formally authorize the transfer of GT Road to the NHAI. With this development, GT Road is now set to come under the NHAI’s purview.

A vision for change

The impending transfer of GT Road to the NHAI opens up possibilities for rejuvenation and development. This move is expected to pave the way for potential redesign and modernization of the road infrastructure, providing a renewed and improved commuting experience for residents and visitors alike.
