New Delhi: The passage of traffic on a number of Delhi roadways will be diverted between October 18 and 21, according to an official. This is being done in anticipation of the 90th Annual General Assembly of Interpol, which will be held in the capital next week.

Delegations to visit from 195 nations

Interpol held its 90th Annual General Assembly from October 18 to 21 in Pragati Maidan in New Delhi. There will be delegations from 195 nations at the event. On October 18, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will formally open the Assembly, and on October 21, Union Home Minister Amit Shah will deliver the closing remarks.

According to a senior member of the Delhi Traffic Police, accommodations for the delegates’ stay have been made at The Lalit, The Imperial, Shangri-La, Le Meridien, The Oberoi, Hyatt Regency, and The Ashok hotels.

The delegates will be travelling between places of stay, Pragati Maidan, JLN Stadium and the Airport. Various traffic measures will be implemented in order to achieve smooth transportation for delegates from places of stay to Pragati Maidan, the official said.

These traffic routes will be regulated

In order to facilitate the movement of the delegates, traffic volume will be regulated on Ashoka Road, Firoz Shah Road, Janpath, Barakhamba Road, Sikandra Road, Bhairon Road, Mathura Road, Subramaniam Bharti Marg, Dr Zakir Hussain Marg, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Marg, Panchsheel Marg, Rajesh Pilot Marg, Kamal Attaturk Marg, Shantipath, Maharshi Raman Marg, Mahatma Gandhi Marg, Bhishma Pitamah Marg, Sardar Patel Marg, Gurgaon Road, Aerocity and T3 Approach Road, Dhaula Kuan Flyover and Mehram Nagar Tunnel.

It is crucial to lessen the amount of traffic on the district’s roadways, and this may be done with the help of businesses, groups, and individuals. Employees can be encouraged to take public transportation, to work from home if they like, and to stagger their working hours.

Avoid needles travel plans

According to the Delhi Traffic Police spokesman, people may assist by delaying needless travel plans, using buses and metro rail for necessary travel, and avoiding roads in the New Delhi District.

He warned that commuters near the New Delhi district would experience delays and might want to think about taking alternate routes. The national capital’s police force and security services are both on high alert.

Meanwhile, the security agencies and Delhi police are on high alert in the national capital.
A senior official informed that recently a meeting was held to discuss security and possible threats during the four-day long event in which 195 countries are likely to participate and the ongoing festive season.

“The meeting was attended by senior officials of the Intelligence Bureau (IB), Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), Delhi Police and other concerned agencies. In the meeting, security was hotels where delegations will stay, travel route and security measures at the venue where the meeting will be held was discussed in details,” he said.

Around 4000 security personnel in action

For the security of the event, which is scheduled to take place at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi between October 18 and 21, more than 4,000 Delhi police officers from security units as well as others from Crime Branch, local police stations, paramilitary, and reserve police personnel have been deployed. CCTV monitoring is being done in a control room.

The Lalit, Shangri-la, Hyatt Regency, The Imperial, and other five-star hotels in New Delhi and South West Delhi have given Delhi Police control of their security.

“We have deployed Delhi Police personnel in and around hotels where delegations will stay during the event. Cops in plain clothes have also been deployed to keep watch on any suspicious movement or any unverified person at the locations,” he said.

Police to be in-charge of security

From Saturday, the police have been in charge of the venue’s and hotels’ security. The JLN stadium event and Pragati Maidan are both protected by a composite security system.

The General Assembly, which meets once a year and is made up of delegates from all 195 of Interpol’s member nations, is the organization’s highest governing body.

One or more delegates, usually ministers, police chiefs, directors of their respective Interpol National Central Bureaus, and senior ministry officials, may represent each member nation.
