New Delhi: As we gear up to host the upcoming G20 Summit from September 9 to 10, the Delhi Metro has made a startling announcement. In preparation for the VVIP movement during the event, the metro authorities have issued an advisory detailing the temporary closure of several station gates. This unexpected development has left commuters puzzled and curious about the changes in store.

The surprising metro advisory

In a surprising turn of events, the Delhi Metro issued an advisory outlining a partial shutdown of certain station gates from September 8 to 10, coinciding with the G20 Summit. The advisory clarified that these closures would only be in effect during VVIP movements, leaving many questions about the inconvenience this might cause.

Normal operations continue elsewhere

Despite these specified closures, the Delhi Metro will maintain its regular operations at all other stations during this period. Commuters outside the affected stations can breathe a sigh of relief, knowing they can rely on the metro as usual.

Delhi Metro’s special offer for G20 Summit visitors

In anticipation of an increased influx of passengers during the G20 Summit, the Delhi Metro has introduced an attractive proposition. ‘Tourist Smart Cards’ will be available for purchase at dedicated counters in 36 metro stations from September 4 to 13. These cards come in two variants, offering unlimited rides within the metro network for either one day or three days.

Dedicated counters for convenience

While Tourist Smart Cards are typically available, the Delhi Metro has opened dedicated counters for their sale during the G20 Summit period. This strategic move aims to cater to G20 delegates and international visitors who may wish to explore Delhi’s prominent tourist attractions during their stay.

Pricing and availability

The one-day Tourist Smart Card is priced at Rs 200, while the three-day variant costs Rs 500, which includes a refundable security deposit of Rs 50, according to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).

Covering key stations

The dedicated counters for Tourist Smart Cards will be operational at 36 prominent metro stations, including Kashmere Gate, Chandni Chowk, Chawri Bazar, New Delhi, Rajiv Chowk, Patel Chowk, Central Secretariat, and more. This move aims to provide added convenience and ease of travel for summit attendees and visitors.

As the G20 Summit approaches, the Delhi Metro’s unusual measures have raised eyebrows and intrigue among both regular commuters and tourists. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story.
