AAP National Convener Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday made an important announcement for sanitation workers and other government employees. Addressing a press conference, Kejriwal said that he has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding a housing scheme for government employees, including sanitation workers.
What Did Kejriwal Say?
He said there is a major problem with living in Delhi, and for poor people, buying a home is almost impossible. He added that the situation is more difficult for the sanitation workers who end up on the streets after their retirement because their pension is not enough to afford rent for a house.
“Even now, when I roam around the Legislative Assembly, many sanitation workers come. When they retire, they end up on the streets because their pension is not enough to afford rent for a house. I have seen sanitation workers who live in slums,” Kejriwal added.
Kejriwal Writes To PM Modi
The AAP national convener mentioned that, to address this issue, he has written a letter to PM Modi. In his letter, he has suggested that a scheme be created for government employees in Delhi, under which land is provided at subsidized rates, and the Delhi government will build houses on it.
“This scheme should be started with sanitation workers in mind. I hope the central government will agree to this. Once it begins, we will expand it to include other employees as well,” added Kejriwal.
