New Delhi: After the Supreme Court judgement, the AAP government came up with a list of bureaucrats for transfer, but the centre obstructed the decision.

In a major victory for the Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, a unanimous Supreme Court Constitution Bench granted the Delhi assembly legislative powers to represent the will of the people.

The real power of administration must rest on the elected arm of government in a democratic form of governance, said the bench, adding that the central government’s power in matters where both the Centre and states can legislate “is limited to ensure that the governance is not taken over by the Central government.”

The Kejriwal government fired Ashish More, the Secretary of the Delhi government’s services department, just hours after the verdict.

In a news conference, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced a massive administrative overhaul in the government, threatening penalties against officers who “obstructed” public work.
