In a shocking incident, a techie couple from Bengaluru has been arrested in connection with murder of a 15-year-old girl. The girl worked as nanny for their five-year-old son, reported Times of India. The incident took place on September 27 at couple’s residence in Banganapalli near Bengaluru. The deceased has been identified as Sumaina, a native of Rajasthan. Sumaina was struck on her head multiple times by the couple, after she was found eating child’s food. The couple works in IT companies. The girl was first hit by 37-year-old, Ashwini Patil and later joined by her husband Abinesh Sahu, aged 41.
Another media report stated that the girl had been chosen by the couple form an orphanage in Odisha.
How Was The Couple Tracked?
The Sankari sub-division Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) S Raja said that the couple did not seek medical treatment for Sumaina after the assault. She succumbed to her injuries the following day. The couple in a state of panic, purchased a suitcase, stuffed the body inside and drove it to a spot near Sankari in Salem district of neighbouring state Tamil Nadu. They left the suitcase under a bridge in the Vaikuntam area on September 28.
Police were alerted by the locals after they discovered the suitcase on September 29. Investigating officers tracked the purchase of suitcase to a store in Bengaluru on September 27. On reviewing the CCTV footage, they found a car which was seen travelling to Sankari but not returning. Upon questioning, the police were informed by car’s new owner that a couple from Bengaluru had sold the car to him. The police then traced the couple through their IT employer and found that they both had turned off their phones recently. The couple was located and apprehended in Odisha. They were produced before the magistrate in Sankari and sent to judicial custody at the Salem Central Prison, stated the report.
