AI Racing With Human Brain, Will It Engulf Jobs?

Bharat Ek Soch: While on one hand, new job opportunities are emerging with Artificial Intelligence; on the other hand, some jobs are also facing potential crisis. Today, we will discuss in our special program 'AI - Boon or Bane', about what the future of technology will be like and what impact AI will have.

You must have heard the story from childhood where a genie would emerge when the lamp was rubbed, and it would ask, “What is your command, master?” The words that came out of the master’s mouth, meaning the command, were to be fulfilled as soon as he blinked. Such stories are considered mere fantasy, but with the advent of computers and artificial intelligence, it is being said that they are also like those genies who fulfill most of the human commands as soon as they blink. The advanced versions of AI, namely Generative AI, have completely changed the picture. Work is underway in many parts of the world to develop the power of thinking and understanding like humans within machines. What is the difference between AI and Generative AI?

The world’s best technical brains and tech tycoons often say that the day is not far when machines won’t need commands from humans. Figures like Sundar Pichai, Elon Musk, Bill Gates, and Yuval Noah Harari are involved in these discussions. Israeli young historian Yuval Noah Harari openly speaks on every aspect of AI. He argues that AI is different from every previous technology in human history. It is the first technology that can make decisions on its own. Now the question arises, if machines start making decisions according to circumstances and start implementing their decisions, will human relevance not diminish? Will humanity not be in danger if machines are not controlled? Before deliberating on such questions, it is necessary to understand what the difference is between AI and Generative AI. How are they making human tasks easier?

Realisation of the mistake of creating AI

Geoffrey Hinton is considered the godfather of AI worldwide. Geoffrey Hinton, who played a major role in creating AI, once said that he is beginning to regret his work. This can also mean that Geoffrey is realising the mistake of creating AI. Just about a month ago, in a podcast, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates discussed the dangers of artificial intelligence. Sam Altman has talked about this many times before as well. In January, Altman proposed the creation of an international agency based on the International Atomic Energy Agency to save society and international politics from its negative effects. This means that Sam Altman, who created Chat GPT himself, feels threatened by Generative AI like nuclear bombs.

Changes in fields from agriculture to health with the help of AI

Historians like Yuval Noah Harari believe that technology capable of making decisions on its own can end human existence. However, Harari argues that human extinction will not be like that caused by nuclear weapons. Technology will bring so much change that saving humanity will be a big challenge. It means that technology will change everything and can ruin everything. Now, the world is witnessing new versions of AI, in which people are seeing better opportunities for themselves. In countries with large populations like India, countless possibilities are being seen in AI. Work is underway to prepare scripts for major changes in fields from agriculture to health with the help of AI. Crop insurance companies within the country are using AI for yield prediction and drought monitoring. Many states in the country are also taking the help of AI to improve law and order.

Human brain is not as creative as AI

The world is divided into two parts, virtual vs. real. Both have their own advantages and disadvantages. The biggest difference between the human brain and the computer is that the former is much slower compared to artificial intelligence. The storage capacity of the human brain, meaning in the language of computers, is limited, but the human brain can ask questions as creatively as it wants, a capability that AI does not have. Even the creator of Chat GPT, Sam Altman, has admitted that while technology is secure, relying entirely on it is not right.

What will the world be like in five years?

The big question on people’s minds today is whether AI-powered machines will surpass humans because they are being developed in such a way that they can make decisions based on circumstances. What will the world be like in the next five years, and what role will AI play in it? It is currently believed that while machines may work as efficiently as the human brain or even faster, they cannot generate emotions or feelings like the human brain can. However, historians like Yuval Noah Harari have started predicting that AI robots can invest 100% of their emotions in fulfilling relationships in the future. This also implies that robots may surpass humans in attracting others in the future.

There will be a need for updates and upgrades

Loneliness is becoming a major issue in a rapidly changing world. Some people are lonely while others are becoming lonely. Relationships are also rapidly changing. In such a scenario, people may turn to humanoid robots according to their needs in the future. They may seek their happiness in humanoid robots. This means that just as educated humans are feeling the rapid changes in the world of AI, the world is changing many times faster. There will also be rapid changes in the nature of jobs, so every professional will need to update and upgrade themselves within two to three years. Within the next 10 to 15 years, a class will be prepared worldwide that will be unfit for jobs. Companies will see them as liabilities rather than assets. Now the question arises, what initiatives are being taken in the world to save humanity from the negative effects of AI? There is no big decision in making laws to protect against the daily discoveries and their negative side effects in generative AI.

Discussion of benefits outweighing losses

The European Union is rapidly moving towards laws related to artificial intelligence. So far, it is believed that there may be four categories of risks associated with AI in European Union law. In which there will be a provision for penalties for breaking the rules according to the category. However, it may take a year or more for this law to come into force. In this case, the big question is how much generative AI has advanced by then. How many have prospered and how many have been ruined? In India, it is considered certain that the draft of the law to regulate AI will be issued in the next four to five months, but a big thing is also that more discussion is going on in the world about the benefits of AI than the losses caused by it.

To make human life better

By the next year, the estimated earnings from the AI software market worldwide amount to roughly $126 billion. Considering the benefits of AI, 37% of organisations have adopted it in one form or another. Companies are rapidly reaching customers with the help of AI and businesses are growing rapidly. AI is being seen from different perspectives all over the world. Some see it as a technology that makes people’s lives easier, while others see it as a big danger. In such a scenario, we will have to ensure that victory belongs to human intelligence, not artificial intelligence. The use of AI should be to make human life better, not to create difficulties in their paths.
