New Delhi: The vehicle manufacturer Volvo has released the images and details of its all-new EX30. This will be an entry-level electric SUV aimed at attracting young customers to the company. It will initially be available for sale in Australia, Japan, Thailand, and Europe. The company expects that approximately 75% of customers who purchase this car will be first-time Volvo owners, and most people will choose it as their secondary car. This SUV has the smallest carbon footprint of any Volvo model to date, while maintaining safety features. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.6 seconds with its top-spec twin motor performance.

Design:

This car is based on the parent company Geely’s SEA platform, which is also used for the Polestar 4 and Smart 1. The length of the EX30 is 4,233 mm. It features a closed-off grille and Volvo’s signature “Thor’s Hammer” headlights. It will be presented with 18-20 inch alloy wheels and offered in five color options, including a new Moss Yellow inspired by Lichen.

Volvo EX30 Interior:

The interior of this car will follow Volvo’s traditional design language. It will come with a 12.3-inch vertically mounted touchscreen infotainment system on the dashboard, running on Volvo’s Google-based system that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Instead of traditional door-mounted speakers, a full-width home audio-style soundbar is integrated into the dashboard. It will also include a center dashboard glove box-style multi-function center console and a removable storage box at the rear. Various types of recycled materials have been used to create these components.

Volvo EX30 Powertrain and Battery:

The Volvo EX30 will be offered with three powertrain options and two different battery packs. The entry-level variant will feature a single motor version with a rear-mounted 271hp motor and a 51kWh lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery, claiming a range of 342 km per charge.

In addition, the single motor powertrain will also be available in an extended-range form, which can increase the claimed range up to 474 km using a 69kWh nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) battery with a consumption rate of 6 km/kWh. The top-spec twin motor performance model also utilizes the same battery, capable of delivering a combined output of 427hp.

The entry-level LFP battery can be charged with up to 134kW chargers, while the NMC model can be charged with chargers up to 153kW. Volvo claims that the chassis of the EX30 has been tuned for quick driving in urban areas.

Competition with Jeep Avenger EV:

This car will compete with the Jeep Avenger EV, which will feature a 54kWh battery manufactured by Stellantis, offering a range of 400 km according to the WLTP cycle, but Jeep claims that it can provide a range of up to 550 km depending on driving conditions. Its battery can be charged from 20% to 80% in 24 minutes using a 100kW cable.
