New Delhi: Tata Motors plans to expand its Indian product portfolio with a range of new models including SUVs and EVs. The automaker will also provide generational changes and mid-life updates to its existing models. Meanwhile, the company is gearing up to launch updated versions of the Harrier and Safari SUVs.

While their official launch date has yet to be announced, the models are likely to go on sale in the coming months. More interestingly, the automaker has started testing the Tata Safari electric SUV, which was recently caught on camera with heavy camouflage.

The spotted Tata Safari EV test mule appears to share some of its design cues with the Tata Harrier EV that debuted at the Auto Expo 2023. The latter is based on the Tata Gen 2 (Sigma) architecture, which is essentially a heavily redesigned version of the OmegaArch platform. Major modifications have been made to the fuel tank and flat floor, making it lighter and more energy efficient than the existing Omega platform.

Tata revealed that the Harrier EV will come with an AWD system along with vehicle-to-load (V2L) and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) charging capabilities. It is expected to have a battery capacity of around 60 kWh and provide a range of around 400-500 km (in real-world conditions).

The electric SUV concept carries a new grille, an improved front bumper, a blacked-out cover around the clustered headlights, a redesigned central air intake with a blind panel and new angular creases.

Its other key highlights included ‘EV’ badging on the fenders and recessed door handles, a redesigned taillight assembly with a new LED light bar across the width of the tailgate. The Tata Safari electric SUV is likely to share all the above features with the Harrier EV.

Tata has confirmed that the production-ready electric Harrier will see its launch sometime next year. The Safari EV is likely to come with its younger EV sibling.
