New Delhi: First introduced more than a year ago and then tested for several million kilometers, Rolls-Royce has now finally taken the wraps off its first all-electric vehicle – the Spectre. This two-door electric coupe is the spiritual successor to the Phantom Coupe and is the first step towards the automaker’s goal of becoming an all-electric brand by 2030.

Rolls Royce Spectre: Design

The Specter has a very familiar Rolls-Royce shape – long bonnet, clean profile and fastback. And while the design can be understood to be based on the brand’s existing models, Rolls-Royce says the greater inspiration is from modern yacht concepts.

Measuring 5.45 meters long and over 2 meters wide, the Specter is even bigger than the four-door Mercedes EQS.

At the front, the Specter has the widest radiator grille ever on a Rolls-Royce. It is designed for better aerodynamic efficiency and also has 22 LEDs for soft lighting at night; The Spirit of Ecstasy has also been aero-tuned.

Unlike the typical Rolls Royce with its flat, upright nose, the Specter’s bonnet sweeps down to the grille – all of which add up to a drag coefficient of 0.25, making it the most aerodynamic Rolls-Royce ever. company.

The split headlight design, meanwhile, returns to the Phantom Coupe – the ultra-slim LED DRLs are mounted high, with a clustered headlamp positioned below that appears dark at first glance but conceals jewel-box-like darkened chrome covers. In profile, the Specter features three distinct lines – a gently sloping roofline, a prominent shoulder line and one at the base called the ‘waft line’, which is directly inspired by yachts.

Rolls Royce Spectre: Interior

Like the exterior, the interior of the Specter doesn’t stray too far from existing Rolls-Royce models. It actually looks very similar to the current Ghost. What is new is that the starlight insert, which until now was only offered on the roof, is now also incorporated into the door panels. The door can otherwise be fitted with wooden panelling.

Also unique to the Spectre, the passenger-side dash panel is illuminated with a “Spectre” decal surrounded by a cluster of more than 5,500 star-shaped lights. Its seats are also completely new, with the rear ones beautifully integrated with the inner body panels.

The interior also features exquisite stitching, embroidery and intricate piping, and as with all Rolls-Royce cars, the Specter offers customers endless customization options.

However, the biggest talking point about the Spectre’s interior is Rolls-Royce’s new software platform – ‘Spirit’. Until now, Rolls Royce used infotainment software derived from BWM.

Spirit is essentially a new digital interface with connected car technology that controls all the functions of the car. Rolls-Royce also offers a bespoke service with Spirit software, where you can even change the color of the dials to complement the interior.

Rolls Royce Spectre: Powertrain and Platform

The Specter is based on Rolls Royce’s all-aluminum space frame architecture called the Architecture of Luxury.

While this platform also underpins the current Phantoms, Cullinan and Ghost, it was designed with electrification in mind right from the start, which was in 2003. The Specter is said to be 30 percent stiffer than any previous Rolls-Royce. It is also equipped with active suspension and four-wheel steering.

Interestingly, even though the company has revealed the car in full, the Specter is still in the final stages of testing, hence the final output figures are not ready yet. According to Rolls-Royce, preliminary data suggests that the Specter will have a range of 520 km on the WLTP cycle.

The electric power unit produces 585bhp and 900Nm, sending drive to all four wheels, and can propel the Specter from 0-100km/h in 4.5 seconds – quite impressive for a car weighing almost three tonnes.

However, these numbers could change by the time testing ends in the second quarter of 2023. The numbers will be officially confirmed before the model’s global launch in the fourth quarter of 2023.
