Maruti Suzuki WagonR: New Delhi witnessed a surprising turn in the car market as the year drew to a close. December 2023 saw a remarkable twist in car sales trends, with budget-friendly models being overtaken by their pricier counterparts. Notably, Maruti’s acclaimed WagonR, previously reigning at the top of sales charts, dropped drastically, failing to secure a position among the top 10 cars sold.
Throughout 2023, WagonR had consistently held the top or second position in sales. However, its sales plummeted in December, slipping to the fourteenth spot with a mere 8,578 units sold. This decline marked a 16% drop in annual sales compared to November 2023, where 16,567 units were sold.

Interestingly, the more affordable Maruti WagonR surpassed the demand for the company’s newer compact SUV, Frontas, which sold 9,692 units during the same period. Contrarily, the month saw stronger performances from Maruti’s higher-priced models. The compact sedan Dezire sold 14,012 units, while the 7-seater Ertiga, Brezza, and Baleno sold 12,975, 12,844, and 10,669 units respectively. These models, priced between Rs 7 lakh to Rs 12 lakh, showcased robust sales figures.
