New Delhi: The reborn Renault 4 debuted at the ongoing Paris Motor Show as a retro-styled electric SUV and will be launched globally in 2025.

Joining the 2025 Renault 5 hatchback, the production Renault 4 will be the second car to use the automaker’s CMF-BEV architecture and will be built alongside the 5 at Renault’s new ElectriCity production center in northern France.

Renault 4 concept: Exterior Renault and dimensions

The concept unveiled at the Paris Motor Show featured a bold off-road-themed bodykit in reference to the modified Renault 4s that take part in the annual 4L Trophy rally across the Moroccan desert.

Renault says the new 4 will be the most versatile car in its segment, and while the production model will lose some of the more rugged elements of the concept, the focus on practicality and utility will remain.

With a length of 4,060 mm and a wheelbase of 2,570 mm, the concept is slightly smaller than the Captur, but larger than the Clio sold abroad. With no engine up front and no transmission tunnel running through the cabin, it’s likely to offer a spacious cabin. Renault has yet to show the 4’s interior, but a reveal is expected next year.

Renault 4 concept: Powertrain details

The Renault 4 will draw power from a 42kWh nickel-cobalt-manganese battery located under the floor and is expected to provide a range of around 402km.

Renault 4 concept Power will be sent to a synchronous motor on the front axle, which should accelerate the EV from 0 to 100 km/h in under 10 seconds. There is a chance that the Renault 4 could get a more powerful variant or four-wheel drive later on.

The original 4 was a landmark car for Renault, selling more than eight million units during its three-year production run.

By reviving its name and some defining design elements, Renault is hinting at similar volume aspirations for the new EV.

Whether the production Renault 4 will make it to the Indian market remains to be seen.
