New Delhi: Electric vehicle maker Tesla has begun production of its all-electric Semi Truck, and the first batch of the 500-mile range version of the truck will be delivered to Pepsi on December 1, CEO Elon Musk announced on Twitter.
Base price for the 500-mile range version is expected to be $180,000. Tesla also plans to launch a 300-mile version of the Semi. The base price for this version of the truck is estimated at $150,000.

The Tesla Semi Truck has faced several production delays since its introduction five years ago. It is now ready for delivery. In addition to Pepsi, other potential companies awaiting orders include Walmart, DHL, FedEx, United Parcel Service and Anheuser-Busch, according to a Digital Trends report.

The launch of the first batch of Semi Trucks is in line with Elon Musk’s announcements in August, when he said deliveries of the 500-mile version of the Semi would begin before the end of 2022.
The Tesla Semi Truck can go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 20 seconds when loaded to a maximum gross vehicle weight of 80,000 pounds. The car is powered by four independent motors for maximum power and acceleration with the goal of producing low energy costs per mile according to Tesla.

According to the report, Tesla is building the first Semi Trucks near the Gigafactory in Nevada, while it is expected to mass produce them at the Giga Texas plant near Austin. The first Semi Truck prototypes were seen on the roads in 2019.
As for safety features, Tesla claims, “The Semi comes standard with active safety features that pair with advanced engine and brake controls to ensure traction and stability in all conditions. The central position of the seats gives the driver a better view, while the all-electric architecture reduces the risk of overturning and intrusion into the cabin in the event of an accident.
