Mercedes EQS 580: Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Friday launched the first Made-in-India Mercedes Benz Luxury Electric Car (580 4Matic) at the company’s Chakan plant in Pune, Maharashtra.

He said that the automobile industry is being engaged to make more e vehicles and that efforts are being made to transform the automobile industry based on alternative fuel.

The minister, at the launch event, reiterated the importance of Biofuels over petrol and diesel as environmentally friendly and cost effective.

This will be the first Mercedes EV to be assembled in India, as its AMG variant and its other EVs were brought to India as CBUs (completely built up).

Luxury EV costs Rs 1.5 crore

The Mercedes EQS 580 will join the lineup of the EQC and Mercedes AMG EQS 53, which were recently launched in the automaker’s EV portfolio. According to media reports, the luxury EV will cost Rs 1.5 crore (ex-showroom). The upcoming Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 is likely to come with a 107.8 kWh lithium-ion battery.

The company claims that this EV has a range of around 750 kms, which makes it the longest range EV in the country. Interested customers can book the EQS 580 4MATIC EV starting today on the company’s official website or by visiting the nearest dealership with a token amount of Rs 25 lakh.

Takes 4.1 seconds to go from zero to 100 kmph

This new Mercedes car makes 523 bhp power along with 856 Nm of torque and takes 4.1 seconds to go from zero to 100 kmph. Mercedes Benz EQS 580 has big 19 inch wheels.

According to the ARAI certification received by the company on 29 August 2022, this luxury EV will be India’s first ‘Certified Locally Produced Luxury EV’.

The car features a 56-inch MBUX hyperscreen and consists of three screens – passenger display, central infotainment and instrument cluster and is currently the largest in-car screen in the world. Other highlights include ambient lighting, massage seats, high-end Burmester sound system, among others.

Talking about the design of the EV, it gets a closed and blacked-out grille at the front, sharp LED head lamp unit on both sides, frameless doors, 19-inch alloy wheels.
