Brazil’s technology
Toyota Brazil has introduced the Flex fuel-efficient hybrid electric car technology in Brazil. A flex-fuel engine and an electric powertrain are standard features of such a vehicle. Thus, employing ethanol provides it a greater fuel advantage because it can run in its EV mode for an extended amount of time when the engine is shut off.

MoU signed
It is India’s first pilot project on Flexi-Fuel Strong Hybrid Electric Vehicles (FFV-SHEV). This will determine whether ethanol-powered flex-fuel vehicles can succeed in Indian settings.
The FFV/FFV-SHEV data collected in India will be shared with the reputed Indian Institute of Science. Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) and the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore have also inked an MoU in this regard. Flex-fuel production has already begun in India, with three grades available.
