New Delhi: Hyundai Motor India launched its electric SUV Ioniq 5 at the Auto Expo last month. Along with this, the company also showcased the Ioniq 6. Now recently, a prototype variant of an electric Creta crossover (codename SU2i EV) from Hyundai was seen for the first time. Knowing Automotive, Nitin Tyagi was charging his EV when a Hyundai Creta EV prototype stopped for a recharge, which he clicked. There were a total of two test mules of the Hyundai Creta Electric. Apart from the visible floor pan extension and different body panel colours, these spy pictures do not reveal any difference between the Creta EV and its regular model.
How will this EV be
The Creta EV is likely to use an updated version of the IC-engine platform currently in use in the production model as well. With this, it can be manufactured locally, due to which its cost will also be reduced.
Looking at the sped model of Hyundai Creta Electric, it is known that the company will not require much change and investment in its existing assembly lines to make this car. However, later the company will set up its fully electric e-GMP platform in India for both domestic and foreign export markets. Not much information has been received about the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV, but its features can be similar to the Kona Electric. That is, it will get 100 kW (136 hp) PMSM electric motor, which will generate peak torque output of 395 Nm. This car can get a lithium-ion polymer unit with a capacity of 39.2 kWh, which is expected to get a range of more than 400 km.
When will it be launched?
The new Hyundai Creta EV is expected to arrive at the 2025 Auto Expo, after which it will be launched. Its debut timeline is similar to that of its Maruti YY8 electric SUV (codename). Its price is expected to be between 20 to 30 lakh rupees.
Will compete with Nexon EV Max
This car will compete with Tata’s Nexon EV Max. It is currently the best selling electric car in the country. It gets a range of 456 km per charge.
