When talking about an entry-level hatchback, the name that comes to mind after the Alto is the Renault Kwid. Instead of keeping its subtle design, the Kwid flaunts its muscular SUV-like design that helped the hatchback gain popularity.
Similar to the Maruti Suzuki Alto, the Renault Kwid is offered with an 800cc or larger 1.0-litre engine with manual and AMT transmissions. Also, Renault Kwid’s bold design and high ground clearance only complimented the popularity of the entry-level hatchback.

Maruti Suzuki S-Presso

For those looking for a more entry-level SUV-inspired design, the Maruti Suzuki S-Presso is an option. Although classified as a hatchback, the S-Presso offers an upright seating position and the boxy exterior gives it an SUV feel.

Apart from Maruti Suzuki and Renault, Tata also has an offering in the form of the Tata Tiago hatchback. The Tiago is above the above mentioned cars in terms of segment, but it is Tata’s entry level offering.

The Maruti Suzuki Celerio offers all the positives mentioned so far, good mileage, compact dimensions, AMT transmission, CNG version and more, but offers a more spacious interior and is perhaps the best looking iteration of the Celerio yet.
The 66bhp 1.0-litre petrol engine delivers a mileage of 25.2kmpl, while offering the most boot space of any car on this list. The CNG option also comes in handy when commuting is the main goal.
