Delhi Government Approves 3- Month Extension Of EV Policy 2.0

The initial three year term ended in August 2024, however the state government decided to extend the guideline beyond - Details Below-

Amid the fervor that the Draft of the New EV policy 2.0 caused, a new update might be able to offer Delhi residents with a possible short term relief. The relief comes in the guise of a Three Month extension in the implementation of the new EV 2.0 policy. As per a recent update the current policy would continue to operate till the new Delhi EV 2.0 policy is implemented. 

As per a report By PTI the decision for the extension was taken by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. Beyond that Delhi’s Transport minister Pankaj Singh clarified that there would be no-Ban on Auto Rickshaws or any other category of vehicles as of yet.  The Policy has been extended a few times previously as well. The Policy was first drafted in August 2020 as one of the key initiatives by the State Government.

The policy was aimed to tackle vehicular pollution and beyond that the new policy was also aimed to boost the adoption of EV vehicles by 25% by 2024. The initial three year term ended in August 2024, however the state government decided to extend the guideline beyond.

EV Policy 2.0 

The Policy’s overall goal was to encourage the adoption of electric vehicles to reduce pollution. The draft was supposed to cover mass categories such as Two Wheelers, Buses, Three Wheelers and goods carriers as well. The Policy had shared  a slew of incentives to boost EV adoption. These included a Subsidy for women riders of up to Rs 36,000 on the purchase of electric two wheelers. Beyond that The government had also devised that it would offer a purchase incentive of Rs 10,000 per kilowatt -hour , capped at Rs 30,000 per vehicle.

Beyond that the new EV policy was supposed to generate 20,000 more jobs along with the establishment of battery collection centers along with a network of charging and battery swapping stations. The Policy would be implemented once it receives approval from Cabinet.
