New Delhi: Hyundai recently unveiled the Ioniq 5 in India and it will be launched at the Auto Expo 2023. Bookings for the electric crossover started on December 21 at Rs 1 lakh.

The Ioniq 5 is expected to be priced between Rs 45-50 lakh.
The main reason for this will be that Hyundai will assemble the Ioniq 5 in India using completely knocked down kits at its Tamil Nadu plants, according to sources. Completely knocked down and semi knocked down units are subject to 15 and 30 percent duty respectively.

Another reason could be that while Kia offers the EV6 in rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations, Hyundai only offers the Ioniq 5 in a rear-wheel drive setup. The Ioniq 5 also has a slightly smaller battery – 72.6 kWh – while the EV6 gets a 77.4 kWh battery.
Hyundai Ioniq 5 with one engine produces 217 hp and 350 Nm of torque. However, the single-motor setup of the Kia EV6 produces 229 hp and 350 Nm, while the twin engine produces 325 hp and 605 Nm of torque.

The Ioniq 5 will compete with the EV6 – although it will be significantly cheaper. It will also compete with the Volvo XC40 Recharge, which is priced at Rs 55.90 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). While not a direct competitor, the Ioniq 5 will also compete with the Mini Cooper SE, which is priced at Rs 50.90 lakh (ex-showroom).
