Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani was elected as the Mayor of New York City on Wednesday after winning the crucial election in which he emerged as the clear front-runner.
In the race, Mamdani competed against former New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo, who contested as an independent, and Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa.
Former Mayor Eric Adams, who had been serving as the Mayor of New York City until Mamdani’s victory, dropped out of the mayoral race in September.
Polls across the U.S. opened at 6 a.m. on Tuesday and continued until 9 p.m. The early voting period, which began on October 25, ended on Sunday.
This was the first national election during the second term of Donald Trump’s presidency.
