Zelenskyy Urges EU Leaders to Provide Long-Range Weapons After Failing to Get Tomahawk Missiles from US

"When we talk about long-range weapons for Ukraine, we mean that the Putin regime should feel real consequences from this war. I urge you to support everything that helps Ukraine get such capabilities," Zelenskyy was quoted by Reuters as saying.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Thursday urged EU leaders to provide long-range weapons to Ukraine. The move comes after the United States refused to supply Tomahawk missiles to the country.

"When we talk about long-range weapons for Ukraine, we mean that the Putin regime should feel real consequences from this war. I urge you to support everything that helps Ukraine get such capabilities—because it really makes a difference for Russia.," Zelenskyy posted on X.

He said in another post, " These long-range weapons are not only in the U.S.—some European countries also have them, including Tomahawks. We are already talking to the countries that can help."

He posted on X, “Before the European Council meeting in Brussels, I met with António Costa. It was important to coordinate our positions. I am grateful to the European Union for approving today the 19th package of sanctions against Russia – restrictions on the shadow oil fleet, the banking and financial systems, a ban on importing Russian LNG, and, for the first time, sanctions against crypto schemes and platforms. A very important decision. We must not only defend ourselves but, together with all of Europe and the United States, put pressure on Putin to stop this war. We also discussed defense assistance, the SAFE instrument, our path toward EU membership, and the steps needed to open the negotiating clusters.”
